Prescription Drugs: When an injury turns into addiction
In this powerful episode, host Chad LaComb sits down with Tim Torres, a 39-year-old who
shares his unfiltered and inspiring story. At just 16, Tim was prescribed Percocet for an injury.
Within weeks, he was chasing the euphoric high, and in just months, he was physically hooked.
When doctors started tapering him off, Tim turned to illicit opiates, first OxyContin, then heroin
by age 18. Years later, he faced the even deadlier grip of fentanyl, overdosing multiple times.
Tim’s journey is a sobering reminder of how fast prescription drugs can lead to a life of
dependency.
But there’s light at the end of the tunnel. After years of fighting addiction, Tim found recovery
through faith and methadone. He’s been clean from hard drugs since 2016 and fully sober for a
year, having surrendered his life to the Lord. He credits life-saving tools like Narcan and one
crucial piece of advice: “Reach out. If you find yourself addicted, you can’t do it alone.” Whether
it’s being honest with a doctor about drug-seeking behavior or asking for non-narcotic options,
Tim’s message shines through: recovery is possible with help.
